Danaher & Walsh Civil Engineering recently came together for Wear It Green Day in support of Mental Health Awareness Week.

The event took place across our offices and sites in aid of our Charity of the Year, the Mental Health Foundation.

It helped raise awareness of mental health, encourage conversations and bring colleagues together in support of an important cause.

Supporting Mental Health Awareness

Wear It Green Day gave employees the chance to show their support for mental health awareness. Colleagues across the business got involved by wearing green, taking part in activities and supporting fundraising events. As a result, the day created a positive atmosphere across Danaher & Walsh. Most importantly, it helped teams come together and support one another.

Fundraising Through a Bake Sale

The office bake sale raised an impressive £48 for the Mental Health Foundation.

Employees enjoyed a range of homemade treats throughout the day. In addition, colleagues took part in a bake off competition. Sophia Cooper won the bake off competition, so congratulations go to Sophia for taking the top spot.

Bringing Teams Together

The lunchtime quiz also proved a highlight of the day.

Teams across the business took part and enjoyed some friendly competition. Meanwhile, the quiz helped bring colleagues together during the working day.

Nick Hill took the top spot as quiz champion, so congratulations go to Nick. Together, the bake sale, quiz and Wear It Green activity helped create a sense of connection across the company.

Supporting Alex’s Wish

At Danaher & Walsh Civil Engineering Ltd, we believe that engineering strong communities goes beyond the projects we deliver. It is also about supporting causes that make a genuine, lasting difference in people’s lives. One charity close to our hearts is Alex’s Wish.

Our Support So Far

Danaher & Walsh has donated £900 to Alex’s Wish in the last financial year through our membership of their ‘Your Business Community’, this funding has supported several important initiatives to improve the lives of those affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Our contribution has gone towards helping them to achieve the following:

Why This Charity Matters

Alex’s Wish works tirelessly to fund research, provide support, and improve the quality of life for individuals and families affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Duchenne is a severe and progressive muscle-wasting condition that primarily affects boys, and currently, there is no cure.

The charity’s work helps to bridge the gap between medical research, patient care, and practical support for families navigating the challenges of living with the condition. By investing in research and community support programmes, Alex’s Wish is helping to create hope for the future while improving lives today.

At Danaher & Walsh, we are proud to play a small part in supporting such an impactful organisation. The work they carry out aligns closely with our values of community, responsibility, and making a positive difference.

A Message from Alex’s Wish

“We have been blown away yet again by the support we have received in 2025, thanks to our wonderful, dedicated and committed supporters, ambassadors, volunteers, and trustees. Thank you all so very much. This means the world to the Duchenne community and to us. Thanks also to Duchenne UK, with whom we partner, for bringing us these wonderful projects to support.” – Emma Hallam, CEO of Alex’s Wish

Danaher & Walsh Civil Engineering proudly supported a T Level project at Derby College, helping students gain real-world insight into the construction and infrastructure sector. The industry-led programme brought Derby College, G F Tomlinson, Greenhatch Group Ltd and Danaher & Walsh together to show students how civil engineering projects move from early ideas to final proposals.

As part of the project, Mark Hedges, Joanne Pigram, Sarah Swindin and Sue Southam represented Danaher & Walsh. Together, they helped students explore the roles, skills and teamwork needed within a professional construction environment.

A Practical Introduction to Construction

The three-week project gave students a practical introduction to the way construction businesses work.

Throughout the programme, students explored the key stages of a live construction bid. They looked at early concept development, programme planning, cost management, health and safety, environmental impact and social value.

In addition, the project helped students understand how different construction disciplines work together. This gave them a clearer view of the teamwork needed to deliver successful infrastructure projects.

Working Like a Real Construction Business

As part of the project, students worked in small teams and acted as their own construction companies.

Each team created a company name, logo and organisational ethos. They also allocated professional roles, including Civil Engineer, Quantity Surveyor, Bid Manager and Social Value Manager.

The teams then developed proposals to repurpose an external open space at Derby College’s Roundhouse campus. To support their ideas, they reviewed site survey information and used real survey data.

They also produced outline designs, programmes and budgets. Alongside this, they considered risk, safety, environmental impact and social value.

This approach gave students a realistic experience of construction project planning. As a result, they developed their teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills.

Presenting to an Industry Panel

The programme ended on Friday, 30 January with a final presentation day.

Each team presented its proposal in a Dragons’ Den-style format to a panel of industry representatives. During the presentations, students explained their ideas, justified design and cost decisions, and answered questions from the panel.

This format reflected the type of client and stakeholder engagement that takes place on real construction projects.

At the end of the session, the panel selected a winning team. However, every group showed enthusiasm, professionalism and growing confidence throughout the day.

Supporting Future Careers in Civil Engineering

Danaher & Walsh values opportunities that help young people explore careers in civil engineering and construction.

Therefore, we were proud to support this project alongside G F Tomlinson and Greenhatch Group Ltd. Through our partnership with Derby College, students gained valuable exposure to real construction practices and industry expectations.

Most importantly, the programme showed the value of collaboration between education and industry. It helped students build skills, improve confidence and understand the career pathways available within civil engineering.n.

Supporting The Air Ambulance Service with Essential Car Park Upgrades

Danaher & Walsh supported Air Ambulance car park upgrades at The Air Ambulance Service’s Hangar Charity Superstore in Melton Mowbray. The works helped improve safety, access and usability for visitors, staff and volunteers.

Our team worked alongside Galliford Try and its delivery partners to complete targeted civils improvements. Together, the project team helped enhance an important community facility that supports lifesaving work across the region.

Improving Safety and Access

The charity’s existing car park had deteriorated over time. As a result, the uneven surface created challenges for people using the site.

Danaher & Walsh helped resolve these issues through a focused package of civil engineering works. The team improved the rear car park and helped create a safer, more accessible environment.

Targeted Civils Improvements

The improvement works included:

These works helped improve the day-to-day experience for the charity’s visitors, staff and volunteers.

Supporting a Valuable Local Charity

Although our formal Social Value Employer Levy contribution for this project was £50, the wider community impact was far greater.

The upgraded car park now provides safer access and a better visitor experience. It will also help reduce future maintenance pressures for the charity.

Most importantly, these improvements support The Air Ambulance Service as it continues to raise essential funds for its lifesaving work.

Delivering Social Value Through Local Projects

This project reflects Danaher & Walsh’s commitment to delivering meaningful social value.

By working with Galliford Try and its delivery partners, we supported a local improvement project that will benefit the charity and the wider community.

Our Social Value article includes more detailed information on the project: Air Ambulance Car Park Resurfacing, Melton Mowbray.
