Danaher & Walsh Civil Engineering is proud to share that Quantity Surveyor Alice Stewardson has had her research on late payment in UK construction published in an academic journal.
Alice’s university research paper has been published by the Journal of Financial Management of Property and Construction. The achievement marks an important milestone in Alice’s career and reflects her hard work, commitment and academic success.
From Trainee to Quantity Surveyor
Alice joined Danaher & Walsh in 2016 as a trainee. Alongside her role at Danaher & Walsh, she studied at Birmingham City University. During her studies, Alice consistently achieved high standards and showed strong commitment to her professional development.
As part of her degree, Alice completed an Individual Honours Project. This is a sustained, in-depth and research-informed project that formed the final part of her studies.
Researching Late Payment in UK Construction
Alice’s paper is titled “The Late Payment Epidemic in UK Construction”.
The research focuses on the issue of late payment across the construction industry. It also looks at the effectiveness of government-led voluntary payment initiatives. To support her findings, Alice gathered information from 100 construction professionals.
She then carried out a comparative analysis of upstream experiences, such as main contractors, and downstream experiences, including subcontractors and suppliers.
Published in an Academic Journal
Alice’s tutor, Professor David J Edwards, held the paper in high regard. As a result, the document was submitted for publication.
The Journal of Financial Management of Property and Construction has now published Alice’s work. This recognition highlights the quality of Alice’s research and the importance of the topic within the construction industry.
