Social Value Case Study
Danaher & Walsh Civil Engineering is proud to support We Discover Industry, a three-year programme at Limehurst Academy.
The programme helps socio-economically disadvantaged girls build confidence, develop work-related skills and explore future careers. It focuses on key growth sectors, including construction, engineering, advanced manufacturing, digital, life sciences and logistics.
Helping Young Women Explore STEM Careers
Many young women face barriers when exploring STEM-related careers.
For example, some have lower confidence, less career awareness and fewer chances to engage with employers. However, they have strong potential and valuable skills to develop.
We Discover Industry aims to change this through long-term support and meaningful employer engagement. As a result, students can learn more about different career routes and build confidence over time.
Supporting Students at Limehurst Academy
As part of our social value commitment, Miriam Faver and Joanne Pigram have volunteered as mentors and role models.
They will support a group of students at Limehurst Academy from Year 8 to Year 10. Together with the programme team, they will help students understand the wide range of careers available.
The sessions will also support employability skills, confidence and career awareness. In addition, they will help students prepare for the world of work.
Inspiring Future Construction Talent
For Danaher & Walsh, initiatives such as We Discover Industry are an important investment in the future.
Construction and engineering continue to face skills shortages. Therefore, we must engage with young people early.
It is also important to show that our industry offers many different roles. These include site-based, technical, commercial, support and leadership careers.
By supporting this programme, we can help raise aspirations and improve awareness of non-traditional career routes.
Building a Stronger Talent Pipeline
We are delighted to be part of We Discover Industry.
Through the programme, we can support young people as they build skills, confidence and ambition. At the same time, we can help create a stronger and more diverse talent pipeline for construction and engineering.
The next mentoring session will take place in September. We look forward to continuing our work with the students and seeing their confidence grow over the coming years.
