Social Value Case Study
Danaher & Walsh has made a commitment to Social Value, which we call ‘Engineered for Good’. We focus on the ten areas we believe we can make the biggest and best impact in the communities in which we work.
This case study is an example of our commitment to giving opportunities to ex-offenders.
Opportunities for Ex-Offenders
Working alongside Community Interest Company Own Merit, based in Northampton, just a stone’s throw from the Market Square where the project is taking place, we are helping to give an opportunity to one specific ex-offender.
Recently released from prison and housed affordably in Own Merit’s purpose-built townhouse, we employ someone three days per week as a labourer on our Northampton Market Square project. He got his CSCS card while in prison, enabling him to start work almost immediately. The other two days of the week, he volunteers for a charity that helps rehabilitate drug addicts. He truly is now a valuable member of society.
In addition, Danaher & Walsh donated a pile of laptops to Own Merit so that the men living in their accommodation all have access to the internet and the ability to look and apply for recruitment.
Visit www.ownmerit.org to find out more about them. They are a truly inspirational organisation. A C4 documentary was created about its founders and they filmed on the Northampton Market Square site.
