Social Value Case Study
Danaher & Walsh is committed to Social Value, which we call ‘Engineered for Good’. We focus on the ten areas we believe we can make the biggest and best impact in the communities in which we work.
This case study exemplifies our commitment to inspiring the next generation.
Inspiring the next generation
Danaher & Walsh Civil Engineering proudly supported an industry-led T Level project at Derby College, delivered in partnership with G F Tomlinson and Greenhatch Group Ltd.
Delivered over an intensive three-week programme, the project gave students a realistic insight into the construction and civil engineering sector by replicating the environment of a live bid.
Students worked in small teams, operating as their own construction businesses. They developed proposals to repurpose an external space at Derby College’s Roundhouse campus, taking responsibility for design, programme planning, cost, health and safety, environmental considerations and social value.
The programme concluded on the final Friday with Dragons’ Den-style presentations to an industry panel, where students professionally presented their ideas, justified decisions and responded to challenges. A winning team was selected at the end of the session.
The enthusiasm, engagement and confidence shown by the students throughout the project were impressive, particularly during the final presentations. The initiative demonstrated the value of industry-led learning in helping young people build confidence, understand workplace expectations and explore future career pathways within construction and civil engineering.
Danaher & Walsh is proud to support initiatives that inspire the next generation and strengthen the connection between education and industry, helping to develop skills, ambition and long-term opportunities for young people.
Testimonial from Derby College
‘Dear All,
I appreciate your support with the Employer Led Projects over the past three weeks with our T-Level Year 1 students. The opportunity for learners to gain real insight, practical skills and hands-on experience across a range of disciplines is invaluable. It plays a key role in helping them make informed decisions about industry placements and their next steps after college.
Your support with placements to date has been incredibly helpful. Thank you again for your time, commitment and continued support. Warmest Regards‘
