Skegness Sewer Repair Shortlisted for National UKSTT Award

Danaher & Walsh Civil Engineering is proud to announce that a challenging Skegness sewer repair has been shortlisted for a national UKSTT Award.

The project was delivered by our dedicated Anglian Water team and has been shortlisted in the Pipe Rehabilitation – Non-CIPP category.

The repair involved a collapsed 300mm diameter sewer located 4m below an entertainment complex in the busy seaside resort of Skegness.

Tackling a Complex Sewer Collapse

The project team internally dubbed the scheme “mission impossible” due to the complexity of the repair.

The collapsed pipe was full of rubble, brick, paving stones and metal debris. As a result, the team needed an innovative method to clear the blockage and restore the sewer.

The location also added further pressure. Because the sewer sat beneath a busy entertainment complex, the team had to find a solution that reduced disruption and avoided unnecessary excavation.

Using Innovative No-Dig Technology

Danaher & Walsh used a highly innovative technique to clear the pipe.

The team developed a system that used resin to bind the debris together. Once the resin had cured, the material could be robotically cut and removed from the pipe.

To complete the process, the team injected the resin through a small bore pipe running inside a custom inflatable packer. This approach allowed the team to manage the debris safely and effectively from within the sewer.

Restoring Flow to the Sewer

Once the team cleared the pipe, patch lining was used to repair the sewer and restore flow.

This no-dig approach helped reduce disruption in a busy location. It also supported a safer and more efficient repair than traditional excavation methods. As a result, the project demonstrated the value of trenchless technology in complex sewer repair environments.
