Mission Impossible Sewer Repair Wins UKSTT Award

Danaher & Walsh Civil Engineering is proud to announce that its Mission Impossible sewer repair in Skegness has won a UKSTT Award.

The complex sewer repair was delivered by Danaher & Walsh’s dedicated Anglian Water team.

The project won the Pipe Rehabilitation – Non-CIPP award, which recognises excellence and innovation in trenchless technology.

Recognised for No-Dig Innovation

UKSTT, the United Kingdom Society of Trenchless Technology, is the industry body for no-dig technology in the UK.

The organisation works to advance the science and practice of trenchless technology for the public benefit.

Each year, the UKSTT Awards celebrate innovation, technical excellence and best practice across the trenchless technology industry.

Tackling a Complex Sewer Collapse

The winning project involved the repair of a collapsed 300mm diameter sewer in Skegness.

The sewer sat 4m below an entertainment complex in the busy seaside resort.

To add to the challenge, the pipe was completely full of rubble, brick, paving stones and metal debris.

As a result, the team needed a safe and innovative way to clear the pipe without using traditional excavation methods.

Developing a Bespoke Repair Solution

Following bench tests, the team developed a specialist system to bind the debris together using resin.

The resin was injected through a small bore pipe, which ran through a custom inflatable packer.

Once the resin cured, the team used robotic cutting equipment to remove the bonded debris from the pipe.

This approach allowed the team to clear the blockage from within the sewer while reducing disruption above ground.

The award highlights the skill, innovation and problem-solving shown by the Danaher & Walsh Anglian Water team.

It also demonstrates the value of no-dig technology for complex sewer repair projects in challenging locations.
