Woolley Hill Wind Farm, Cambridgeshire
Danaher & Walsh was appointed by one of the world’s leading renewable energy companies, RES, to build infrastructure for Woolley Hill Wind Farm in Cambridgeshire on a design & build basis.
Project Overview
The wind farm, located adjacent to the A14 dual carriageway near Huntingdon, comprises four giant wind turbines, generating up to 10MW of electricity for supply to the National Grid.
Danaher & Walsh’s contract involved the construction of a 2km stone track, crane hardstandings, drainage and associated infrastructure. It also involved the laying of around 15km of cables.
The project presented various technical and logistical challenges, including the coordination of the movement of a substantial amount of earth and aggregates.
Outcomes
The wind farm’s construction is environmentally driven, with excavated material remaining on site. Lime stabilisation was used to reduce the amount of imported material required to construct the access track.
