Weldon Academy, Corby
Project Overview
BAM appointed Danaher & Walsh to deliver the Weldon Academy access road in Corby, creating a safe route to the town’s newest school. The scheme included a new roundabout, a wider carriageway, new footpaths, street lighting, landscaping and drainage for the school and the surrounding community.
A delay in issuing the Section 278 agreements pushed back the start date, which shortened the available programme. However, the school’s opening date fixed the finish date, so the programme could not overrun.
Speeding Up the Weldon Academy Access Road Programme
To make up the lost time, Danaher & Walsh re-sequenced the works, brought in extra resources and sped up the programme. As a result, the team kept the scheme on track despite the shorter timescale.
Outcomes
Danaher & Walsh completed the Weldon Academy access road on 5th September, meeting the school’s opening date without delay. The new roundabout and wider carriageway now give pupils, staff and visitors safe, easy access.
In addition, new footpaths, street lighting and landscaping have improved the area for the wider community, while upgraded drainage will support the site for years to come. Overall, the scheme shows how Danaher & Walsh can respond quickly to programme pressure and still deliver key infrastructure to a fixed deadline.
