Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire
The Waltham Cross Public Realm Scheme involved the comprehensive transformation of the town centre to improve safety, accessibility, and overall appearance. The works included the removal of a dated pedestrian underpass at Monarchs Way and its replacement with two new street-level pedestrian crossings.
The project also delivered extensive public realm and highways enhancements across the High Street, including new paving and kerbing, upgraded drainage, modern street lighting and street furniture, high street parking improvements, rain gardens and planting, alongside associated utility diversions, new power supplies and manhole installations, all delivered within a live town centre environment.
Project Overview
It helped to enhance its historic character while introducing modern, functional public realm features.
The primary objective was to improve safety, accessibility and overall appeal, supporting economic regeneration and creating a more welcoming environment for residents, visitors and businesses.
It was a complex scheme with many stakeholders to manage, including retailers, businesses, residents and shoppers. With many hidden services, a bus station and proximity to the M25 also having to be taken into account, we are very proud to have delivered this project successfully, and in time for the very important Christmas retail period.
Client Feedback
“On behalf of Broxbourne Borough Council, I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to the whole project team across all the organisations, and of course all the lads on the ground, for all their hard work, professionalism, determination and true grit in getting Waltham Cross High Street opened to the public by 30 November. Fantastic achievement. Well done and thank you!”
