Project Overview

Danaher & Walsh was appointed by main contractor Bowmer & Kirkland to deliver Section 278 highway works and public realm improvements at Unity Square Nottingham, a new government hub in the city centre next to Nottingham’s mainline railway station. The 10-storey building will provide office space for up to 4,000 staff from HMRC and other government departments, forming a key part of Nottingham’s Southern Gateway regeneration project, jointly developed by Peveril Securities and Sladen Estates.

Highway and Public Realm Works for Unity Square Nottingham

Our scope covered S278 highway improvements to the busy Sheriff’s Way, including carriageway widening, construction of a new splitter island, resurfacing and road lining. We also delivered the public realm works to the building’s colonnade, main entrance and steps, creating a striking landscaped setting finished in Yorkstone flag paving and complemented by high-quality street furniture and carefully selected soft landscaping.

Careful phasing was essential throughout the project to maintain traffic flow along Sheriff’s Way while coordinating with the other contractors working on site. An existing medium-pressure gas main also ran through the work area, requiring close liaison with Cadent to ensure it remained fully protected throughout construction.
