The Derby Corridor, Mobility Scheme, Derby
Project Overview
Danaher & Walsh were appointed by Balfour Beatty on behalf of Derby City Council for the Derby Corridor mobility scheme, which delivered significant improvements to active travel infrastructure and traffic flow across two major junctions and multiple side roads.
The works included the remodelling of the ASDA entrance, the installation of a new pedestrian crossing to prioritise safe movement for pedestrians and cyclists, and the creation of a consistent 2.5 km cycleway along an important commuter route into Derby city centre.
Outcomes
Despite the constraints and evolving design requirements, the project was completed on time and within the revised budget. The result is a safer, more accessible route for both cyclists and pedestrians, supporting sustainable travel into Derby city centre.
The final scheme successfully balances infrastructure improvement with community and environmental considerations, enhancing connectivity while preserving local access and urban character.
