Storey’s Bar Road Junction Improvement Project
Project Overview:
Danaher & Walsh was appointed to improve the Storey’s Bar Road junction with Vicarage Farm Road. This project involved installing a new traffic island, widening Vicarage Farm Road leading up to Storey’s Bar Road, and installing new drainage systems. Additionally, ducts for traffic signals and street lighting were installed, along with appropriate road traffic signage.
The project also required the widening of Storey’s Bar Road itself, which necessitated the diversion of existing utilities. A Rootlock retaining wall was constructed to support the new, wider section of the road. The works also included kerbing, surfacing, and installing new drainage to accommodate the modified road layout.
To improve pedestrian and cyclist access, we excavated sections of the existing verge along Storey’s Bar Road and prepared the foundation for a wider, combined pedestrian walkway and cycleway. The verges were regraded, and topsoil was renewed to complete the landscape enhancements.
Our Approach:
The works were carried out according to detailed designs provided by our client, Milestone. Danaher & Walsh played a key role in ensuring efficient delivery by implementing solutions to challenges that arose during construction.
Project Outcome:
The works were completed in line with the original design specifications. However, delays were experienced due to statutory undertakers’ delays in diverting existing services. We adapted to these setbacks by reprogramming the works, minimising delays, and maintaining project momentum.
In addition to the contracted works, Danaher & Walsh undertook supplementary tasks, including laying extra ducts for service diversions, installing additional street lighting ducts, and renewing existing footpaths.
Through proactive project management and adaptability, Danaher & Walsh successfully delivered a quality infrastructure improvement, enhancing both road safety and public access in the area.
