Spring Boroughs, Northampton
Project Overview
Danaher & Walsh delivered a series of Spring Boroughs environmental improvements for Engie Places & Communities. The works upgraded communal areas across the estate near Northampton town centre.
The team carried out the works on behalf of Northampton Partnership Homes. Northampton Borough Council owns this arms-length management organisation (ALMO), which manages a stock of 11,700 homes.
The Spring Boroughs estate mainly comprises large, low-rise blocks of flats. As a result, the scheme focused on practical and aesthetic upgrades to shared spaces. Danaher & Walsh created landscaped courtyards using resin-bound golden gravel pathways. The team also installed raised wooden planters to bring greenery into each site. At Grafton House, the team also built a pagoda area where residents can now socialise and relax outdoors.
Spring Boroughs Environmental Improvements: New Facilities for Residents
Beyond the landscaping, Danaher & Walsh added a range of practical features to support everyday life on the estate. These include laundry drying areas, benches, picnic tables, bin stores and lockable outdoor storage units for bicycles and tools. The team also constructed new car parking areas at several properties to meet residents’ needs.
Additionally, a grant from the Tesco Bags of Help scheme supported the works at St Peter’s House. This helped extend the scope of improvements delivered there.
Outcomes
The Spring Boroughs environmental improvements have reshaped how residents use their shared spaces, delivering a safer and more attractive estate overall. The standout addition is a new pathway linking St Peter’s House and Doddridge House. It gives residents a safe, direct route towards Northampton town centre. Feature lighting and modern street furniture line the path, while a decorative stone marker highlights the site of a historic well.
Together, these upgrades have given the Spring Boroughs estate a stronger sense of place. They will support residents’ wellbeing and community life for years to come.
