Highway & Infrastructure Works, Littleover, Derby
Project Overview
Danaher & Walsh carried out S278 highway works for Heatherton Developments in Littleover, Derby. The scheme also included S38 works and paved the way for a new Aldi store and a care home.
We built a new adoptable access road around 50m long. The road forms a junction with Rykneld Road and includes a turning head. In turn, bellmouth access connects the road to both the Aldi store and the care home site.
S278 Highway Works Deliver Safety Improvements to Rykneld Road
Our S278 highway works also included widening footways along Rykneld Road and installing a new puffin crossing. In addition, we fitted new street lighting and carried out resurfacing and white lining to complete the safety upgrades.
Elsewhere, we delivered Section 104 drainage works, connecting the site to the foul sewer on Rykneld Road. We then constructed a new storm sewer and an attenuation basin. An overflow system carries excess water via an outfall into the Holly Brook watercourse.
Mature trees along Rykneld Road created a no-dig zone for part of the site. Because of this, we installed a Cellweb cellular confinement system to avoid digging near the tree roots. This let us build the highway without disturbing them.
Outcomes
The new road gives Aldi and the care home safe, reliable access from Rykneld Road. Wider footways, a new puffin crossing and new street lighting also make the route safer for pedestrians, day and night.
The upgraded drainage network protects the site from surface water flooding. The attenuation basin and outfall into Holly Brook manage storm water safely.
Meanwhile, our Cellweb confinement system protected mature trees throughout construction, letting us build a robust, adoptable highway without harming them.
Danaher & Walsh completed the works to meet the standards for highway authority adoption. This gives Heatherton Developments a scheme ready to support new growth in Littleover.
