Radcliffe Culvert, Clumber Drive
Danaher & Walsh was appointed by Keepmoat Homes Ltd on behalf of Leicester City Council to execute critical renovations on the Soar Lane Bridge.
Project Overview
Danaher & Walsh were tasked with a complex culvert clearance project following a historic error by a local builder, who unknowingly poured approximately 5m³ of concrete into an existing culvert beneath a residential driveway.
The project involved accessing the culvert through a small opening cut into the homeowner’s driveway. This enabled the use of a robotic aqua cutter to break down the hardened concrete. A suction tanker and high-pressure jetting equipment were then used to remove the debris, clearing the obstruction without compromising the fragile structure of the culvert.
The works took place over two months and were carefully managed to minimise disruption to the homeowner and local community.
To further thank the homeowners, we bought chocolates and a £50 gift card once we completed, which they were delighted with.
Environmental and social benefits were also realised:
- The project delivered real social value by protecting local homes and infrastructure from recurring flood damage.
- The project prevented further surface water flooding by restoring the culvert’s functionality.
- The homeowner’s driveway was reinstated to a high standard, with the finished result meeting their satisfaction.
