Melton Mowbray Distributor Road
The Brief
The Melton Mowbray Distributor Road project involved the construction of new highway infrastructure to improve traffic flow around the town.
Danaher & Walsh was appointed by Galliford Try to deliver key civil engineering works on behalf of Leicestershire County Council. The scheme formed part of a wider programme to reduce congestion, improve access and support future growth in the area.
Project Overview
Danaher & Walsh delivered a broad package of highway works across the scheme.
Our scope included drainage, culverts, footways, bridleways and highway infrastructure. In addition, the works involved temporary traffic management, site clearance, bulk earthworks, excavation, kerbing, paving and new street furniture.
The team also installed service ducting and removed redundant assets. Together, these works helped create a safer and more reliable transport route for the local area.
A key part of the scheme involved installing box and piped culverts within live watercourses. The project also included extensive drainage networks and active travel routes for pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians.
Outcomes
The completed route has created a more efficient way for traffic to move around Melton Mowbray.
As a result, the scheme helps reduce town centre congestion and improves access for residents, businesses and visitors. It also supports safer movement for cyclists, pedestrians and equestrians.
Alongside the highway improvements, the project has improved drainage and flood resilience. Furthermore, the scheme delivered environmental benefits through woodland planting, habitat creation and the use of recycled and locally sourced materials.
Positive feedback from the client team and the local community highlights the long-term value of the works.
