Compton Acres Bank Erosion Scheme, Nottinghamshire
Project Overview
The scheme involved reinforcing the embankment between the water stream and public footpath using a combination of gabion systems and structural headwalls.
Pre-filled woven gabion baskets were installed in three tiers to stabilise the bank, with gabion mattresses used to create a smooth transition from the new headwalls into the watercourse.
Concrete-filled bags were installed to form new headwalls, providing additional structural support and resilience. To further enhance public safety, new pedestrian railings were installed along the footpath, clearly separating pedestrian routes from the edge of the watercourse.
Outcomes
The completed scheme has significantly improved the stability of the stream bank, reducing the risk of further erosion and safeguarding the public footpath.
The finished structure provides a strong and visually appropriate solution, supported by new pedestrian railings that clearly define safe access routes.
The works have delivered long-term stability, improved public safety, and a cleaner, more attractive finish that sits well within the surrounding environment.
