Church Walk, Hinckley
Project Overview
Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council appointed Danaher & Walsh to deliver a key Hinckley Town Centre public realm scheme, carrying out the highway and public realm works at Church Walk and Lilley’s Yard. The project also included resurfacing of the adjacent Castle Street Car Park and the installation of new road markings.
The works formed part of the ongoing £1.8 million Hinckley High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) programme, aimed at making the town centre more welcoming to shoppers and visitors. By maximising existing character features and improving walking routes and movement around the town, particularly between Castle Street and Argents Mead. The scheme supports the council’s wider town centre regeneration objectives.

Danaher & Walsh worked closely with HBBC Town Centre Management throughout delivery, developing a construction phasing plan that kept disruption to a minimum for the general public, surrounding businesses and adjoining properties.
Outcomes
The existing carriageway was narrowed to create wider footways, with both the carriageway and footway finished in regular paving. This has created a more attractive, shared space where pedestrians and vehicles can move safely alongside one another.
New trees, low-level landscaping and raised planters have softened the streetscape, helping to connect the green space of Argents Mead directly to the town centre shopping area.
Together, these improvements have significantly enhanced the Hinckley Town Centre public realm, creating a safer, greener and more welcoming environment for residents, visitors and local
businesses alike.

What do our customers say about us?
“These works were scheduled with a short, challenging timescale. The successful completion on time and in budget is a credit to all the parties concerned but especially the contractor, Danaher and Walsh, who ensured a quality product and dealt promptly and efficiently with difficulties as and when they occurred. The refurbished Church Walk car park complements the completed public realm works to create a more attractive modern environment that is more welcoming to shoppers and visitors.”

We were happy with the work undertaken by Danaher & Walsh and the way in which the D&W team collaborated on the programme and delivery of the works, assisting our Client and us to achieve a challenging scheme in a very public environment. We worked together with utility companies, retailers, and the public to provide a positive scheme for the community.
