Bestwood Bridge, Nottingham
Project Overview
Danaher & Walsh were appointed by Via East Midlands Ltd to demolish and replace a vandalised pedestrian footbridge over the River Leen in Bestwood Country Park. The existing timber structure had become unsafe due to repeated damage and was no longer fit for purpose.
The project focused on delivering a robust replacement bridge that would provide a safe, durable and reliable crossing for the local community while maintaining this important link between neighbouring estates.
Outcomes
The project delivered a safe, durable and reliable pedestrian crossing that will serve the local community for many years to come. The new steel bridge provides a robust, vandal-resistant structure while restoring an important link between neighbouring estates and improving access for pedestrians and cyclists within Bestwood Country Park.
Key highlights included:
- New steel, vandal-resistant footbridge installed
- Bridge reopened one day ahead of programme
- Vital link maintained between Hucknall and Bestwood Village
- 200m access path cleared to improve pedestrian safety
- Improved route for residents, walkers and cyclists
Client Feedback
“The replacement of the Bestwood Footbridge has delivered a durable, high-quality steel structure that provides a safe and reliable crossing for the many pedestrians and cyclists who use this route daily within Bestwood Country Park.
The previous timber bridge was frequently subject to vandalism and ongoing maintenance issues; the new predominantly steel design offers a far more robust and vandal-resistant solution that will serve the community for many years to come.
Danaher & Walsh delivered the project within a very short programme, maintaining excellent communication throughout and providing consistent updates at every stage of the works. Their proactive coordination and collaborative approach ensured the scheme was completed efficiently, safely, and to a very high standard.”
