Aldi Balsall Common, Coventry
Project Overview
DSP appointed Danaher & Walsh to deliver the Balsall Common highways scheme. The scheme provided key infrastructure for a new Aldi store in Balsall Common, Coventry.
Our scope covered new highway drainage and a dedicated drainage outfall for the store. We also created a new entrance off Kenilworth Road and widened connecting footpaths into shared-use cycleways. Upgraded street lighting completed the works along the connecting road and footways.
The Balsall Common highways scheme delivers
new access for Aldi
Planning and highway approval timeframes meant work started later than planned. We worked at pace to protect Aldi’s opening date. The works ran along a busy A-road. The Balsall Common highways scheme required deep excavations close to existing utilities for the store’s drainage outfall. We planned robust temporary works and traffic management to support this. This kept the road safe and moving throughout the programme.
Working closely with client DSP and designer Connect, we resolved design challenges as they arose. Our site experience and technical know-how kept the eight-week programme on track.
Outcomes
The completed scheme delivered new access, drainage and upgraded pedestrian and cycle connectivity within an eight-week programme, allowing Aldi to open on schedule.
DSP relied on Danaher & Walsh to get the project over the line, and the new store now gives the Balsall Common community a new supermarket option.
