New Roundabout, A148 Felbrigg, Norfolk
Danaher & Walsh built a new roundabout near Cromer, Norfolk, for Norfolk County Council via the Eastern Highways Framework 2.
Project Overview
The new roundabout was constructed on the busy A148 road at Felbrigg after years of campaigning by local stakeholders.
The long-awaited scheme is set to alleviate congestion on one of Norfolk’s busiest roads, in turn providing a boost to tourism and business in the area. It will also improve safety on a stretch of road which was known as an accident blackspot.
Funding was provided from numerous sources, including Norfolk County Council, National Trust, New Anglia LEP, local parish councils and several local businesses.
The works involved constructing a new roundabout on a busy, live road. Almost a kilometre of new kerbing was laid, 180m of new drainage and nine soakaways installed and 4,020m2 of asphalt surfacing laid.
It is estimated that the new roundabout will serve six million vehicle movements per year.

Outcomes
Meticulous planning of distinct works phases, together with a safe and effective system of traffic management, ensured that works progressed swiftly whilst minimising disruption to road users.
Despite the ambitious ten week works programme, which was scheduled to complete in time for the busy holiday season, Danaher & Walsh opened the roundabout to traffic two full weeks early.

Client Testimonial
Since Danaher & Walsh were appointed as the successful contractor for the A148
Felbrigg Roundabout scheme, the relationship that has been built between the two parties has been one that I would quantify as strong, collaborative and effective.
