A1307 Safety Improvements Scheme, Cambridgeshire

Danaher & Walsh was appointed by Skanska to carry out two adjacent highway safety improvement schemes on the A1307 near Babraham, Cambridgeshire.

Project Overview

Scheme 6 comprised the construction of a new signalised crossing on the A1307 at the Babraham Research Campus roundabout, linking a new multi-user path to Babraham village.

Work involved the provision of a new toucan crossing with equestrian facilities on the eastern approach to the roundabout and the replacement of all existing street lighting. An additional 120m footway was constructed to the west of the roundabout.

By coincidence, the Babraham Research Campus roundabout was originally constructed by Danaher & Walsh in 2009.

Scheme 7 comprised the construction of a new bus lane along the A1307 towards Haverhill on the approach to the junction with the A11.

Safety improvements were made to the Babraham High Street junction, resulting in the cessation of right turns onto the A1307. Improved pedestrian crossing facilities were constructed on the A1307 adjacent to an existing bus stop.

A proactive working relationship was established with the client, including daily liaison. This approach resulted in schemes being delivered on time and on budget.
