Social Value Policy
This Social Value Policy applies to Danaher & Walsh Group Limited and its subsidiary companies. These are Danaher & Walsh Group Limited, Danaher & Walsh Civil Engineering Limited and Danaher & Walsh Pipeline Solutions Ltd.
Policy Statement
Danaher & Walsh is a values-led organisation with a commitment to improving the lives of our team, individuals and communities where we work.
Founded in 1969, we have remained a family-run business for over half a century. As a result, our dedication to people and communities remains central to how we operate.
We have formalised our commitment to social value through our strategy, Engineered for Good.
Further information about our social value activity is available on our Social Value page.
Building a Lasting Legacy
In all our projects, we focus on building a lasting legacy.
We aim to deliver benefits to local communities during construction. In addition, we aim to support those communities after our work is complete.
To achieve this, our social value team follows a methodology designed to create lasting impact and measurable outcomes.
Our approach covers several key areas. Therefore, we can focus on what our clients and communities need most.
Key Areas of Social Value:
Positive Economic Impact
We work to create a positive economic impact. This includes benefits for local businesses and the overall economic health of the community.
Inspiring the Next Generation
We are committed to inspiring the next generation to pursue careers in construction. In addition, we offer opportunities for learning and growth.
Investing in Future Talent
Our apprenticeship, trainee and graduate programmes support future talent within our industry.
We are a proud Gold member of The 5% Club. This means that more than 5% of our workforce are in earn-and-learn positions.
Building an Inclusive Workplace
We are an Equal Opportunities employer. Therefore, we welcome applications from all candidates, regardless of background.
Enhancing Communities
We identify and engage with our clients and key local stakeholders. This helps us implement initiatives, community-focused support and volunteering activities.
As a result, we aim to create a positive impact in the communities where we work. We also focus on the areas that matter most to local people.
Environmental Sustainability
We seek to reduce wastage on our construction sites. In addition, we promote environmental sustainability and work to reduce carbon emissions.
Local Supply Chain
We support local businesses by prioritising local subcontractors and suppliers where possible.
SMEs and Social Enterprises
Where possible, we work with SMEs and CICs. These organisations support the wellbeing of our communities and our economy.
Supporting Local Charities
Our employees vote for our Charity of the Year. In addition, we support local charities where we can.
This support aligns with the strategic community impact plan created at the beginning of each project.
Providing Opportunities to Ex-offenders
We believe in second chances.
We are proud of our ambition to hire an ex-offender for each of our major projects. By doing this, we aim to support the individual, the community and the economy.
Measuring Our Contribution
To ensure we make a meaningful impact, we monitor progress across all projects.
Our methodology includes setting goals and measuring progress against targets.
The system we use aligns with the Government’s Social Value Model and the TOMs Proxy Values. As a result, we can monitor progress and measure success.
We create a social value scorecard for each project. This can be shared with our clients, our team and the local community.
Our target is always a minimum of 20% SLEV. This means Social and Local Economic Value, measured against the value of the project.
Further guidance is available through the GOV.UK Social Value Model.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
We continually seek ways to enhance our social value contribution.
Where possible, we go beyond project requirements to benefit the community.
At Danaher & Walsh, social value forms part of our culture. Therefore, we aim to create a positive and lasting impact on people, communities and the environment.
