Inspiring the Next Generation at the WiME Event

Inspiring the Next Generation at the WiME Event
Danaher & Walsh were proud to attend the recent Women into Manufacturing and Engineering (WiME) event held at Scunthorpe Bath Halls on 11th March, alongside 35 other companies from across the sector.
Engaging with Future Talent
The daytime event focused on inspiring young people to explore careers in engineering, construction and manufacturing. From 9:40 am to 3:00 pm, 25 schools attended. Groups of around 100 female students arrived every 20 minutes. Students ranged from Year 4 to Year 13.
Students showed strong interest in the industry and asked thoughtful questions. Topics included daily roles, career journeys, qualifications and entry routes. Many also asked about work experience, apprenticeships and future opportunities.
It was encouraging to see so many students exploring careers in civil engineering and infrastructure.
Supporting Career Changers
In the evening, the event welcomed female members of the public. Many were considering a career change into engineering or construction.
Discussions focused on entry routes, including training, apprenticeships and transferable skills. This highlighted that civil engineering is accessible at many career stages.
Looking to the Future
The event was well attended and created a positive environment for discussion. Katie Green and Sue Southam were proud to represent Danaher & Walsh and support the initiative.
Events like WiME help raise awareness of opportunities for women and girls in engineering. They also help inspire future careers within Danaher & Walsh, Anglian Water and the wider infrastructure sector.
Encouraging the next generation is essential to the future of our industry, and we are proud to play a part in helping young people discover the exciting possibilities available to them. #womeninconstruction
