Danaher & Walsh Civil Engineering shortlisted for two, national awards

May was a great month for Danaher & Walsh Civil Engineering. We were delighted to discover that we had been shortlisted for two national awards. As a regional SME civil engineering company, this feels really special.

The first award we are shortlisted for is Contractor of the Year within the Procure Partnerships Framework. The PPF team selected us to appear on the shortlist—this is not an award you can put yourself forward for, so it is a great honour and a tribute to the hard work and professionalism of our teams working on the framework. We will find out in September if we have won.

The second award we have been shortlisted for is the Best New Mental Health Supporter Engagement Award by Mates In Mind, a charity specialising in supporting people in the construction industry with their mental health and wellbeing. Over the last 6 months, our internal Wellbeing Team have been working very hard to ensure that our entire D&W team is well supported in terms of mental health and wellbeing provisions. Some of the things we have introduced include:-

  • Thankful Third Thursday (Breakfast on the Boss),
  • Monthly quizzes
  • Internal well-being newsletter
  • Step challenges to get people outdoors more
  • Doubled the size of the Mental Health First Aid Team
  • Added Mental Health and Wellbeing to our SHEQ observations and reporting
  • We are also implementing a robust plan that includes training for all to encourage more conversations—and there are lots more in the pipeline!

We will find out whether we won the MentalHealth Award on Friday 7 June.
