Danaher & Walsh Proud to Support Derby College

Danaher & Walsh Civil Engineering is proud to support Derby College following its designation as the East Midlands’ specialist Construction Technical Excellence College.

The college is one of just ten in the country chosen as part of a £100m Government initiative. This programme aims to tackle skills shortages and train the next generation of construction professionals.

Supporting Derby College’s Successful Bid

Danaher & Walsh played a key role in Derby College’s successful bid. As part of the selection process, we provided a letter of recommendation.

We also continue to work closely with the college in several ways. This includes employing high-calibre T Level students and offering apprenticeship opportunities across the business.

In addition, Danaher & Walsh contributes to the Employer Skills Board. Contracts Manager Mark Hedges represents the company on the board.

This recognition will bring new opportunities for young people across the East Midlands. It will also help grow a highly skilled local workforce for the construction projects of the future.

Training the Next Generation

The programme will train more than 40,000 builders, bricklayers, electricians, carpenters and plumbers by 2029.

As a result, the UK will be better placed to deliver major housing, education, health and infrastructure projects.

The initiative also supports the wider construction industry by helping to address key skills gaps.

Celebrating the Official Launch

Mark Hedges attended the official launch event alongside apprentice Construction Management student Brad Layton.

They joined fellow employers and apprentices to mark the college’s new status. During the event, they also met Education Minister Bridget Phillipson MP, Derby MP Baggy Shanker and East Midlands Mayor Clair Ward.

Mark Hedges said:

“Danaher & Walsh is very proud to support Derby College and delighted to see it recognised as the East Midlands’ centre of excellence. We are committed to encouraging more people into the industry. We employ multiple T Level students from the college, all of whom are of exceptional calibre. This recognition will inspire more young, talented people into construction, a diverse and rewarding career.”

Supporting the Industry’s Future

This designation forms part of a Government drive to address construction skills shortages. It aims to reduce reliance on overseas labour and strengthen the UK’s ability to deliver vital projects. As a regional civil engineering specialist, Danaher & Walsh is committed to developing the next generation of skilled workers.

Through our work with Derby College, we are helping support early careers, apprenticeships and future construction talent. We are also proud to help ensure the East Midlands remains at the forefront of construction excellence.
