Why clients choose Danaher & Walsh for highway works

Safety embedded in everything we do

Live highway works are inherently high-risk. Our teams are trained, accredited and experienced in managing traffic, protecting pedestrians and keeping operatives safe in live carriageway environments.

Importantly, safety is not a box to tick. It is a value that drives every decision we make on site.

Programme certainty when it matters most.

  • Clear, proactive communication: We manage relationships properly. With residents, businesses, local authorities and stakeholders, through regular communication, including signage and updates, to minimise disruption.

  • Adaptable delivery: Designs change, ground conditions shift and utilities clash. However, our teams respond quickly, solve problems on site and keep the job moving.

Programme certainty when deadlines cannot move

Highways schemes are often tied to development opening dates, planning conditions or critical infrastructure milestones. We understand what it means when a deadline cannot move.

Our experience of Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) delivery, including completing schemes ahead of programme through resource uplift and extended working, means you can rely on us when the pressure is on.

Our experience of Section 278s include:

  • New highway entrance works
  • Traffic signal and controlled crossing installations
  • Street lighting, signage and road markings
  • Drainage and service duct installation
  • Kerbing, surfacing and road marking works

We know how highway authorities work, what they need to see and how to keep approvals moving. That knowledge protects your programme and gives you genuine peace of mind.

Our Accreditations and Associations

What are Section 278 works and why do they matter?

Section 278 works are highway improvements required as part of a development, such as junction alterations, footways, crossings, access roads or carriageway works. As a result, they help developments connect safely and legally to the public highway. Therefore, choosing an experienced highways contractor can help reduce delays, manage risk and keep your scheme moving.

Can you manage the Section 278 approval process on our behalf?

Yes. Because we understand the Section 278 process, we can support schemes from early planning through to construction. In addition, we work with developers, consultants and highway authorities to help keep approvals, technical requirements and delivery aligned. As a result, clients can move forward with greater confidence.

Do you work as a subcontractor to Tier 1 contractors on highway schemes?

Yes. We regularly work alongside Tier 1 contractors on highways and infrastructure schemes. For example, we can deliver drainage, kerbing, footways, carriageway works, traffic management coordination and public realm improvements as part of a wider programme. Therefore, we understand the importance of safe delivery, clear communication and working collaboratively on live sites.

How do you manage live highway works safely?

Safety is planned into each stage of the works. Firstly, we consider traffic management, pedestrian access, site phasing and stakeholder communication. Then, we coordinate delivery carefully to reduce disruption and protect the public, our workforce and other site users. Importantly, safety remains central to how we plan, manage and deliver highway works.

Do you offer early contractor involvement on highway schemes?

Yes. Early contractor involvement can be particularly valuable because it helps identify buildability issues, programme risks, traffic management requirements and potential delivery efficiencies before work starts on site. As a result, clients can make better-informed decisions, reduce risk and improve programme certainty. Ultimately, this supports smoother delivery and better outcomes.
