Testimonial

“Danaher & Walsh and their team worked tirelessly to see this fantastic project through from inception to completion. The scheme presented numerous technical challenges, but their ‘can-do’ attitude and undoubted knowledge and experience ensured that the end-product is completely fit-for-purpose. The site was managed very well in Leicester’s flagship public park and the impact of the works on the surrounding environment was minimal.”

Can you work on listed or heritage bridges?

Yes. Danaher & Walsh has experience restoring listed and heritage bridges, including cast iron parapets, brickwork and ornate ironwork. Wherever possible, original materials are salvaged and reused. In addition, matching reclaimed materials and specialist trades, such as heritage bricklayers, are brought in when needed. For example, recent projects include Soar Lane Bridge in Leicester and Old Bow Bridge ahead of the reinterment of King Richard III.

Will you have to close the road or the route?

Not always. Wherever it is safe, works are phased to keep roads, footpaths and waterways open. However, short overnight closures may be needed where there is no practical alternative. For example, Horsey Toll Bridge stayed open throughout the works, with only short closures for surfacing. Similarly, at Watkin Road Bridge, traffic and pedestrians kept moving while the team switched between two structures

Do you offer design as well as construction?

Our focus is construction, maintenance and repair. However, where design is needed, it is delivered through a trusted design partner. As a result, clients keep one point of contact for the build, while the design remains in specialist hands. In addition, Early Contractor Involvement helps add buildability and cost advice before the scheme moves forward.

How do you deal with the Environment Agency and Canal & River Trust?

Permitting and liaison are managed directly. Many bridge schemes cross canals and navigable rivers, so the team routinely works with the Environment Agency and Canal & River Trust. As a result, working methods can protect the watercourse while reducing disruption. For example, approvals for Soar Lane and Boots Bridge were coordinated as part of the construction phasing to keep the programme on track.
