Danaher & Walsh Civil Engineering has been awarded a GOLD MEDAL AWARD from The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). This is as a result of five consecutive years of achieving a Gold Award.

“Workplace accidents don’t just pose financial risks and operational disruptions; they significantly impact the quality of life for individuals. This is why acknowledging and rewarding excellent safety performance is vital. We congratulate Danaher & Walsh for winning a prestigious RoSPA Award and showing an unwavering commitment to keeping employees, clients and customers safe from accidental harm and injury.”

Julia Small, RoSPA’s Achievements Director

According to RoSPA themselves, by earning a RoSPA Award, organisations not only receive recognition for their accomplishments but also become part of a legacy that values dedication to high safety standards and the well-being of individuals and signifies a commitment to excellence. This epitomises Danaher & Walsh values, so we are delighted to receive this award that reflects our passion as far as health and safety and our commitment to excellence are concerned.

Thank you to everyone at Danaher & Walsh for following our health & safety procedures and working hard to keep yourselves and each other safe – nothing is more important than this. Well done and thank you to our SHEQ team.

Full marks in considerate constructors audit

March also saw the final audit by the Considerate Constructors Scheme at our Watkin Road Bridge site as the project is nearing completion. Having achieved 44/45 on our previous audit we were determined to get full marks this time around . .and due to the hard work of the site team and the support functions, we smashed it! Full marks!

We received a maximum of 45 across all the categories. The monitor commended the team for achieving all aspects of the checklist to a very high standard. We are very proud.

Fantastic work by all involved. Next up for the Watkin Road Bridge team . . the final bridge beam lift! Watch this space.

Restore your faith in human nature.

In the construction industry, we talk a lot about social value and we build it into our proposals and programmes to ensure that we give back to society, and rightly so.

Our industry has always been one where we leave a footprint; once we have completed a job, the results are there for all the world to see for years to come . . but it’s wonderful to leave a different kind of legacy.

However, sometimes, the giving happens naturally. It certainly did at Danaher & Walsh in December.  We have long known that the Danaher & Walsh difference is our people, but in the last month, they have proved it in spades (see what I did there, well, it is still the festive season, so you can forgive me for one last cracker joke!).

Our Business Development Manager bumped into one of his neighbours who volunteers at a local food bank near our site at Melton Mowbray, so he decided to see what he could do to help.  Within days, he had our client Galliford Try on board, as well as everyone at D&W Head Office, and this meant that just before Christmas, between us, we were able to deliver BOOT loads of food to the food bank in Melton.

Our team at our site at Watkin Road Bridge did something equally selfless.  The team have had an incredible year, winning multiple awards and achieving a near-perfect Considerate Constructors score, so they won our internal Team of the Month for December, a cash prize of £100 for them to spend on a round of bacon butties or a drink after work.  Instead, they chose to donate it to the food bank near their site in North Leicester.  How amazing is that?! The goodwill doesn’t stop there, though.  In recognition of this gesture, Dan Danaher doubled the value of the prize, so once again, copious amounts of food were delivered to another food bank just before Christmas.

We also raised lots of money for our chosen charity, Hope for Cancer, through raffling off the generous gifts from our suppliers, so thank you to them for that . . but there is one more significant act of kindness that I want to draw your attention to, to bring 2023 to a close.

Danaher & Walsh are working with Keep Moat on a job near the River Soar.  On a day in December, they saw a woman flailing in the river.  With a quick response and the use of a ladder, they managed to save the woman from drowning.  In recognition of this, we have made a substantial donation to the Samaritans.

Restores your faith in human nature.

As we enter 2024, we wish you and yours a safe, happy, healthy and prosperous new year.

“To win a Considerate Constructors Leading Light award means a great deal. To win the overall award is fantastic. This is a national award and we are a local contractor. We know our standards are high, but to have this recognised by such a well-respected body as Considerate Constructors is very special. We are very proud indeed.”
